We’ve reached a Tentative Agreement!
Your UC-AFT Unit 17 Table Team and the University have reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on the entire contract. This means that both parties have mutually agreed on contract language for each article. More information and details about the full TA will be shared tomorrow so that you can read about what the new contract contains before voting to ratify the agreement.
Please join your UC-AFT colleagues at an online Town Hall meeting to learn about the tentative agreement tomorrow, September 27 at noon (Register now!). In addition to showcasing the major proposed changes to our contract, we will provide information and instructions about the process for the ratification vote.
We collectively have worked hard up and down the state for the last year in our fight for this new contract. This TA would not have been possible without all of your support in many ways: giving us feedback and ideas for proposals, showing your solidarity in the bargaining room, talking to your colleagues about our contract campaign, and being engaged in the process. Without you behind us, your table team could not have won these gains.
Final agreements from today’s bargaining session
Article 13 – Salary
We reached agreement on the salary provisions of the TA’d contract. UC-AFT librarians will receive a 21.43% increase in salary over the 4-year contract. This includes:
- 6.85% increase to base salaries 60 days following ratification (December 1, 2024)
- $2,000 one-time ratification lump sum payment for all full-time librarians (prorated for part-time librarians)
- Annual range adjustments:
- 3.5% (July 1, 2025)
- 3.5% (July 1, 2026)
- 3% (July 1, 2027)
- 3% (July 1, 2028)
Article 3 – Professional Activities and Development
We reached agreement on the professional development article. In the end, we won a per-capita minimum allocation of $1,250/year for each year of the contract. This is a huge step that moves us away from the previous model where campuses received a limited pool of funds to distribute to librarians.
In addition, each campus will ensure librarians have clear local procedures documented to apply for Principal Investigator (PI) status (including on exceptional basis).
Steps toward contract ratification
Tomorrow at the Town Hall we will present the highlights of TA, such as wins in salary, professional development, flexible work, and our academic status. We will also give more details about the ratification process and when the new contract could go into effect. Ratification ballots will go out to all members tomorrow afternoon and the vote will close at 8:00 pm PDT on September 30, 2024. If ratified by our members, the new contract will go into effect October 1, 2024.
